When we released drag and drop image upload, we saw a huge uptick in the number of front images Zistlers put into the system. Dragging and dropping was just easier then using the flagging form. However, as had been pointed out by many, there was no way to upload back images via drag and drop so our back image count did not see the same boost. Today that changes with the deployment of drag and drop upload for back images!

We have added the ability to “flip” cards in the gallery view when editing your collection by using the link in the screenshot below:

Clicking this button flips over all of the cards in the gallery view and shows you their back images.

When the cards are showing their backs, you can drag and drop back images onto them just as you would the fronts. So if you want to upload back images, just flip the gallery view and start dragging and dropping.

After the launch of Set Expert last week, we’ve been reminded once again of all of the amazing work that our members do to help us build Zistle and we want to continue to recognize that effort. As most of you know, we initially built ‘contributor points’ as a way to recognize those efforts. While points are great, they don’t really showcase the diversity of work that happens in the library. We’re excited to launch badges to showcase some of the truly unique attributes of the Zistle community – from what types of cards are collected, to trading activity, to library contributions. If you look on your profile, you’ll notice that you will have a badges section with the various badges that you’ve earned to date.

We believe strongly in a Zistle that is built collaboratively by the community, for the community. As awesome as that sounds, it definitely has its challenges. We know that we need to do a better job of getting card data into our system and also making sure it stays accurate. In the past we’ve added functionality such as importing checklists, drag and drop images, adding images by URL and more to make it easier to add data and images to Zistle but a lot of these features have also made it easier for that data to be inaccurate. Accidents happen and cards are duplicated in the system and errors are created. We want to make it easy to add information but we also want to do everything we can to make sure that the data is accurate and stays that way. That’s why we’re really excited to relaunch our set expert functionality.

We see Set Experts as guardians of the set. They make sure that the information is complete and accurate including the checklists, images, set information and subset attributes. We’ve added some new features to make this easier than ever before including a new set expert layout, the ability to add attributes to an entire subset and clone parallel sets automatically.

New Layout

The set expert panel has a new layout that breaks out the individual tasks needed for the set to be complete. This includes, updating the set and subset information, completing the database and validating the accuracy of the content.

Exactly as before, Set Experts will need to be approved by Zistle administrators. To volunteer, simply visit a set page in the Zistle library and let us know that you’re interested.

Adding attributes to the subset

Many subsets (parallels, inserts, etc) share some kind of uniform attribute. They may all be rookie cards or they may all be autographed relics, etc. Rather than having to add all of that information card by card, set experts now have the ability to add these attributes for the entire subset on the set expert panel. This will apply that particular attribute for every card in the subset. Including cards that are added after the fact.

Cloning parallel sets

One of the most requested features for the library is the ability to automatically populate subsets. Well now it is here. As a set expert, you can now make any subset the parallel of another which not only populate all cards in the parallel set but it will keep them in sync. This is a really powerful tool and with great power comes great responsibility. For now, we’ve limited this feature to Set Experts. We may eventually open this functionality up to all users but for now, we encourage you to become a set expert if you are interested in helping us populate the database.

As always, we want to thank our community for continuing to contribute to our library and give us awesome suggestions for improving. We’re listening and we appreciate the constructive criticism that we get from our members and the collector community at large.

If you’re new to Zistle, you may not know that our library of almost 2 million cards is populated and updated by the amazing Zistle community. Over the next few months, we’ll be adding new features that make it even easier to add and edit information on Zistle. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to add information to the library while maintaining the accuracy of the data. Today, we launched an updated version of the library which highlights sets that require action:

Almost Done – You’ll be able to see sets that just need a few more entries to complete the set. Set completion is important because once a set is complete, we can prevent people from inadvertently screwing up the set data by mistake.

Brand spanking new sets - New sets on Zistle need help populating the checklists as well as adding set information. You can now see recently added sets on the individual sports library page.

Sets needing set details – In an effort to add more set details on Zistle, we’re highlighting sets that are still missing key information such as release date, set description and set image.

More to come

We’ll be launching more library features including a newly designed library homepage, ability to clone sets for parallel sets, re-introduction of set experts and more.

If you’re new to the Zistle library, learn more about how to get involved here.

UPDATE: For technical reasons we are pushing this out one more night. So expect the upgrade to start on starting Friday night.
