As the NFL season comes to a close, it only makes sense that we give a little love to our Football Collectors. We just added team types to Football to make it easy to find your favorite team. So far, we have added the NFL, NCAA, CFL, UFL and AFL as well as some of the experimental but now defunct leagues including the USFL, NFL Europe, the World Leage of American Football and of course the XFL.

Like other sports, there is an inactive category for currently operating leagues to avoid confusion. We have also added years to help ensure that you pick the right team. If you have a team type that isn’t listed, feel free to add it to the miscellaneous type and we can create a new team type for you.

Hockey team types are live on Zistle. For starters, we have included the NHL, now defunct WHA, the AHL, IHL, Elitserien, Allsvenskan, Kontinental Hockey League (Russia) as well as some junior leagues: OHL, WHL and the QMJHL. We also added a World category for international teams that compete in various international match-ups (e.g. the Olympics).

If there are some team types need to be added right away – let us know. Our plan is to have as close to a comprehensive list as possible.

It is time for more robust sorting for sports teams on Zistle. As the Zistle community has grown, we have had an increase in collectors with less mainstream collections and the number of teams has gotten unmanageable (especially in Baseball). When we first added teams to Zistle, we focused on primarily American professional teams and allowed our collectors with other teams add them manually to the list. It didn’t take long for that list to get out of control. Now teams will be sorted by league and their active status rather than one long list. We have started with Baseball but we’ll be rolling out Basketball, Football and Hockey this week.

For Baseball, we have started with MLB, Nippon Professional Baseball (Japan), AAA, AA, A, Negro Leagues as well as a Miscellaneous category to accommodate any teams that do not fall into the above categories.

Our hope is that this will make it easier to find the team that you’re looking for as well as avoid confusion with teams that have similar names across leagues. We have also included the years for many of the team names (MLB, AAA active and Japanese inactive) to help you double check that you are in fact selecting the correct team. We have launched the beta version of our teams functionality to our beta site. With this feature you can add a player’s team to the card when editing your collection, browsing the library, adding a card to the library or flagging a card.

All of the current professional teams for all four sports have been entered as well as a few retired, amateur and college teams. When adding team in list view, click on the “add team” link and type in the team name and it will automatically complete your selection. Click the green add button and the team will be added to that card just like that.

If the team you are entering is not in our database, you will receive a prompt to add that team to the library.

You cannot see the team name while you are viewing your collection right now. If you would like to add teams to your cards, go to “edit collection” and select “just my cards” and add teams this way.

You will also note a different layout for editing collection. This was necessary to have enough room to display team info. We look forward to hearing your thoughts about this new layout.

We also plan to allow you to sort by team while editing but we have not yet built this functionality. We will likely add it in the next few days. If you can, try to add teams to a few cards and let us know what you think. We would like to make this available as soon as possible.
